B. Rae is a musician, songwriter, composer and producer who has produced music for Macklemore, Jarren Benton, and Filero among others, the Washington beatmaker remains un-bought and un-bossed. In many ways, B. Rae has struggled as an outsider. He has no guaranteed income, and when he does make a hit he doesn't know for sure if he'll be paid. But by not associating himself with any particular sound, or any particular movement, he's been able to transcend fads and forge something somewhat unique in rap/hip-hop — a long-term career. He's like many other rap producers who come from a family with little to no musical backgrounds; Washington-transplant Jay Park's father was a citizen soldier, while the parents of another Washington native, Macklemore, wasn't from a musical family. Still, nobody predicted that B. Rae would become an acclaimed hip-hop beatmaker and producer — except maybe for B. Rae himself. In fact, he cited "music producer" as his intended occupation when he made his first beat at the age of 12, despite not knowing what it really meant at the time. He just knew it.
